CLEAN PUJALI DREAM PUJALI INITIATIVE– SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PROJECT

Pujali at a glance:
Pujali is one of the smallest municipal towns within KMA, comes under the Budge Budge police station of the AliporeSadar Sub divison, in south 24 Parganas District, West Bengal. The city of Pujali though has made a good effort to modernize. However with increasing public as well as political awareness, solid waste management is starting to receive due attention by the Municipality. ULB has recognised Solid Waste Management as one of the essential service for maintaining the quality of life in the urban areas and for ensuring better standards of health and sanitation.

POJECT GOAL:Garbage free – clean environment with improved services for common citizen of Pujali Municipality.

OBJECTIVE:

  • To devise a system of storage of bio- degradable waste, recyclable waste and also household hazardous waste separately at the source of waste generation.
  • To devise cost effective system for primary collection of waste from all 16 wards and public places in general and from slums in particular.
  • To devise system to eliminate the age old practice of throwing garbage on the streets or drain causing nuisance to the people and posing a threat to public health at large.
  • To modernize system of waste management at all levels which may synchronize with the system of primary collection as well as transportation of waste and simultaneously eliminate manual loading of the waste into open transportation vehicles.
  • To promote processing of waste for deriving bio-organic fertilizers, reduce quantity of waste going to landfill, derive income from the processing of waste and help agricultural production.
  • To ensure safe and scientific disposal of hazardous waste in a designated place
  • To create livelihood opportunity for marginalized women and men by involving them in SWM program.

 KEYACTIVITIES:

    1. Developing standard operating procedure of Scientific Solid Waste Management.
    2. Training program of Information Collectors.
    3. Information Collection on ward wise waste generating units of Pujali Municipality.
    4. Route Map preparation of all 16 wards.
    5. Swacchata week celebration
    6. School Awareness programme
    7. Capacity Building of training of ParibeshBandhu (Daily Waste Collectors)
    8. Door to Door 2 Bin 1 Bag Campaign and awareness generation on Waste Identification and Segregation at Source
    9. Daily Waste Collection
    10. Manure Preparation from segregated bio-degradable waste.
    11. Segregation of recyclable waste for selling.
    12. Secured land filling of inert and hazardous waste.
